Biocircularity as a strategic axis for the industrialization and defossilization of Spain

Madrid will host the 2nd BioCircular Summit on January 28th, the leading national forum for public-private dialogue on biocircularity and all its subsectors: bioenergy, biofuels and synthetic fuels, renewable gases, bioproducts, and biorefineries. Following the success of its first edition, the event returns with a reinforced focus on the role of biocircularity as a key driver of industrial competitiveness, the ecological transition, energy sovereignty, and territorial cohesion.

Organized by the Spanish Association of Biocircularity (Biocirc) and the Spanish Technological and Innovation Platform for Biocircularity (Bioplat), the BioCircular Summit has established itself as the leading conference in Spain, addressing the main biocircular business models in a comprehensive and cross-cutting manner. This comprehensive vision is essential in a context where no biocircular business model can develop in isolation: understanding the regulatory, industrial, and market evolution of the entire sector is now a necessary condition for business and investment decision-making.

The BioCircular Summit is the only event in Spain that brings together, on a single agenda, the institutional leaders who design public policies, the government agencies that implement them, and the companies already deploying biocircular projects across the country, offering a complete and operational perspective of the sector.

This year's edition features a high-level program focused on the challenges and opportunities of biocircularity in Spain and Europe, with an unprecedented institutional presence in the field of biocircularity, including representatives from the European Commission, the Clean Energy Ministerial, and the main national and regional government agencies with responsibilities in the sector. Throughout the day, the new European Bioeconomy Strategy will be analyzed, along with the role of biocircularity as a driver of defossilization and industrial competitiveness, and Spain's position regarding the biocircular transition in key areas such as energy, industry, innovation, and land use.

The program will delve into the business models leading the deployment of biocircularity, such as biogas and biomethane, advanced biofuels and synthetic fuels, the development of SAF (Sustainable Fuel Systems) for aviation and maritime transport, as well as the valorization of biogenic CO₂ and bioproducts. It will also present the regulatory framework necessary for the sector's real progress and reflect on the social and territorial challenges of biocircularity.

Joan Groizard, Secretary of State for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, will open the forum. Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, will close this edition of the Summit.

A meeting place for policy, industry, and business opportunities

The 2nd BioCircular Summit will bring together policymakers, senior government officials, and professionals from leading companies, technology centers, universities, and industry organizations, solidifying its position as the premier qualified networking event for the biocircular sector in Spain.

This environment is designed to facilitate direct exchange among those who regulate, promote, and develop projects, fostering real synergies, public-private collaboration, and business opportunities.

The event features a large networking area, including an exhibition space and BioInnovation, a section dedicated to showcasing R&D&I projects in the field of biocircularity through scientific posters.

At the close of the event, the State Biocircularity Awards will be presented, recognizing and showcasing knowledge, experience, and integrated, innovative, and sustainable biocircular solutions in eight categories: Public-Private Collaboration, Territorial Impact of Biocircularity, Trajectory and Leadership in Biocircularity, Sustainability and Social Inclusion, Excellence in Biorefineries and Bioproducts, Leadership in Bioenergy, Biofuels, and Renewable Gases, and Biocircular Journalism.

At a crucial moment for the deployment of biocircularity in Spain, the BioCircular Summit 2026 is an essential event for those who need to anticipate trends, understand the regulatory framework, and position themselves accordingly.
